Tsomoriri to Kibber Trek

Short
description: A beautiful trekking that departs from the high-altitude Tsomoriri
Lake, taking one over the high Parang La pass into the Spiti Valley, finishing
at Kibber village. Spiti resembles Ladakh & Zangskar in its Tibetan-style Buddhist
culture and has many interesting monasteries to visit.
Day 1 : Early morning flight from Delhi to Leh, transfer to hotel and
rest.
Day 2 : Morning sightseeing - Shanti Stupa, and Sangkar Gompa; lunch
at hotel, afternoon rest.
Day 3 : Sightseeing around Sham, the lower part of Ladakh, visiting the
Likir and Alchi monasteries.
Day 4 : Leh to Rumtse by jeep, en route visit Shey, Thikse and Hemis
monasteries. Great ride including visits of the famous monasteries high above
Indus river.
Day 5 : Rumtse to Kyamer 5 hours. The first day is an easy walk with
two river crossings after leaving behind the Leh - Manali Road.
Day 6 : Kyamar to Tisaling 5 to 6 hours. Two passes to be crossed today
- Kumur La (4770m) and Mandal Chan La (4850m). This is the day many trekkers
suffer in the thin air of some 4900m above sea level.
Day
7 : Tisaling to Pangunagu 5 to 6 hours. Crossing one pass, Shibuk La (4900m),
with a slow ascent and descent. Good chance to see Wild Ass ( Skyang ). Camp
near the lake Tso Kar.
Day 8 : Pangunagu to Nuruchan 4 to 5 hours. Walking along Tso Kar for
much of the time on the trail.
Day 9 : Nuruchen to Rajung Karu 3 to 4 hour. The shortest day of this
trek with many encounters of the nomadic people of the high plateau.
Day 10 : Rachunkaru to Gyama 5 to 6 hours. Great day of trekking over
Kyamayuri La ( 5410m) and Kartse La with fine views of snow peaks.
Day 11 : Gyama to Korzok 6 to 7 hours. Trek leads over Yalung Nyau La
( 5440m) offering stunning views of lake Moriri. More encounters with nomads
as we near the great Tsomoriri.
Day 12 : One day rest in Korzok.
Day 13 : Korzok to Kyangdam 4 hours. All day walking along the shore
of lake Tsomoriri, reaching Kyangdam at the south end of Tsomoriri with a nice
camp side.
Day 14 : Kyangdam to Nurboo Sumdo 4-5 hours. After breakfast cross the
river, seeing Skyang and other animals. Nurboo Sumdo is reached just after passing
a spring and crossing a stream.
Day
15 : Nurboo Sumdo to Getpa Buzak 5-6 hours. Cross the Parang Chu and walk
along the river on your left heading south. It is an easy ascend towards Parang
La, thereafter only few more gentle ups and downs before halting for the night.
Day 16 : Getpa Buzak to Tharang Yokma 5-6 hours. Walk to Tharang Yokma
along several ups and downs, but no major ascents.
Day 17 : Tharang Yokma to Kharsa Gongma 4-5 hours. Walk through an arid
landscape and then along the river until reaching a big rock beside the trail.
Cross the Parang Chu and camp.
Day 18 : Kharsa Yogma to Dak Ldan 6 hours. Start ascending towards Parang
La. Cross Parang chu after two hours, walking up to the right side of glacier,
then turn right to the top of Parang La (5800m), the highest pass on this trek.
The other side of the pass is very steep. Dak Ldan is reached half an hour later.
Day 19 : Dak Ladan to Tangltak 4-5 hours. Walk down to the stream and
head east along the stream. The gorge is very narrow and Thangltak is reached
after a steep ascend to the pastures.

Day 20 : Thangltak to Kibber 4 hours. After breakfast walk eastwards over
a small pass then head south till you see a small village. Cross the river and
reach Kibber.
Day 21 : Jeep to Manali with a stop to visit Ki Gompa. A spectacular
ride including the famous passes of Kunzum La (4551m) and legendary Rohtang
Pass (3878m).
Day 22 : Rest day in Manali, sightseeing on your own.
Day 23 : Return to Delhi and depart India.
